Asian and South American-Inspired Prints at Laura Siegel

Laura Siegel, who presented off-site at The Collections back in the fall, makes her return to David Pecaut Square for the fall/winter 2013 season.  Known for her boho chic looks, the upcoming collection does not disappoint in terms of comfort as the soft fabrics definitely do not restrict.  Inspired by Asia and South America, the collection is filled with warm, brown based tones – burgundy, if you will, as well as greys, greens and a hint of winter white.

As with Ms. Siegel’s previous shows, the Fall/Winter 2013 collection was presented in the studio, a fairly intimate, non-runway setting.  Models walked out from backstage, around the room and then posed on a platform before walking back.  This was far better than last season, where several models stood on various platforms all at once.  This style of presentation works very well for the collection as a runway, even in a smaller environment, would have just been too overwhelming.

The styling for this collection isn’t for everyone – it looks a little bulky, piled on, if you will, and not exactly the ideal for non-model body types – there are ways to make the pieces work.  The leggings are probably fine with any loose top and many of the tops in this collection can be paired with denim.  The skirt lengths, however, are not for everyone at that “in between” length.  In terms of make-up, the focus was very much on the lips, which were done in a very dark shade of burgundy.  The models also sported a black or white spot on their foreheads, perhaps a nod to a culture that inspired the collection?
