Lucian Matis Loot from the Pop-Up Shop at Shops at Don Mills

On Sunday, I made an impromptu brunch trip up to Shops at Don Mills after hearing about the Heart of Fashion pop-up shop, that was in support of North York General Hospital’s women’s mental health programs.  Heart of Fashion was a fashion show/shopping event held at Shops at Don Mills on November 2.  Some of my favourite Canadian designers, including Lucian Matis and Laura Siegel were selling at the shop, which is open only until the end of the week, with pieces at much lower prices than what one would normally pay for at the retail level.  After a delicious meal at Glow Restaurant, I headed over to the store to see what they had.

I think I spent more than an hour, trying piece after piece.  I knew that I wanted something different, so I settled on a cute bubble black and white skirt that surprisingly works on my petite height and frame (above).  It’s from Lucian Matis’s main collection, and cost me only $100 plus tax.  The regular retail price is $450.

I also picked up some pieces that are more “typical” of what I wear.  I love sweater dresses in the winter, and the jeweled tone tunic/dress would be a great addition to my wardrobe.  The look is great for cooler weather, whether with tights or pantyhose.  For me, anyway, the dress needed to be belted – I’m not sure if it looks that great loose (kind of reminds me of a 1980s maternity – see this Instagram comparison to see what I mean).  And since the sweaters were two for $30, I also picked up a turquoise belted cardigan (below), which can be paired with just about anything!

There were plenty of office-appropriate looks available, especially from Lucian Matis’s Matis by Lucian Matis line.  However, most of the items at the store are more formal/dressy.  So if you are looking for something for an upcoming holiday party or fundraising gala – especially something a bit more unusual – definitely check the place out.  The store is located on 23 Karl Fraser Road and will remain open until Saturday, November 9.
