Mad Men’s Spring/Summer 2013 Collection at Banana Republic

With the sixth season making its debut on AMC in April, it’s time for another Mad Men collection at Banana Republic.  As the show heads deeper into the 1960s, the looks are more inspired by the “mod” look than the early 1960s glam of the Kennedys.  Many of the women’s pieces are a nod to Megan Draper (née Calvet), Don’s (not-so) new wife who serenaded the staff of Sterling Cooper Draper Price last season’s opener with “Zou Bisou Bisou” while the previous collections were more Betty and Joan.  As with past collections, the show’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, has collaborated with Banana Republic to create pieces inspired by the period, reinterpreted for the 21st century.  This time around, the pieces are even look even less

Though last collection definitely had some colour, the new pieces have even more, including prints and greens, such as the dress on model Coco Rocha above.  The women’s pieces are, for the most part, “fun-looking” while the guys’ looks fall more into the  And while the women’s looks are more spring-like, they can most definitely be worn now.  The dress above, for example, pairs well with black tights and tall boots.  As for the men’s collection, these looks have not changed as much – they are still classic, more traditional work-appropriate pieces (not that the women’s looks aren’t office-friendly, especially in the advertising world).
