Cynthia’s Banana Republic Mad Men Collection Loot!

I walked into the Yorkdale store expecting disappointment, that it was going to be like last time, where there were NO PETITES AVAILABLE.  Turned out I was wrong.  Sort of.  As noted in the earlier post, there were only three dresses – two dresses inspired by Joan and one by Betty – on the racks.  However, a day later, at the official launch, I saw other pieces, including cigarette pants and ribbon blouses as well as at least one other dress.  Five dresses in total are available online, both on the Canadian and US sites.  On the evening of the preview party, I tried on two dresses, in which I ended up purchasing one.  It was the Joan Sheath dress (almost sold out in the US  and Canada).

  • Dress: Joan Sheath, size 00P
  • Shoes: STUART (Stuart Weitzman line sold at Ron White), size 5
  • Bag: Kate Spade (really old)
  • Sunglasses: Fendi

Other than at the shoulders (which needs to be fixed so I could cross my arms properly), the fit is pretty good.  In fact, I liked it a lot more than the floral dress, which I felt needed more work and the pink poofy number was, well, just too poofy for me to even  bother trying on.  Also, I think this dress has a bit of European film vibe to it – or at least a movie that takes place in Europe. All I need is a big sunhat!  As for the cigarette pants, they are definitely peggings and I don’t recommend wearing them for long periods of time if you don’t like the feel of thicker material hugging your legs.  I ended up purchasing them in fuchsia to add some more colour to my wardrobe – suggestions as to what to pair it with other than white/tan/black would be great.

  • Cigarette pants: Mad Men Collection, size 00P ($124 CDN/$98 US) – still some available
  • Sweater: Banana Republic Embroidered pearl trim sweater, size XS
  • Blazer: Femme de Carriere, size 30
  • Shoes and sunglasses as above

Did you buy anything from the collection?  Do you think it’s better or worse than last season?  Are you looking forward to the fifth season of Mad Men, premiering on March 25?
