Malorie Urbanovitch: Normcore with a Twist

I have to admit that I wasn’t sure about Malorie Urbanovitch’s upcoming collection as the first few pieces were presented – they were fairly dark in colour, ranging mostly navies and burnt oranges.  It screamed fall/winter.  Not to mention, many were knits, albeit lightweight.  However, as the show progressed, the looks became more and more spring like in colour, with greens and purples, all simply cut, yet with a twist so that it doesn’t look like everything else a woman owns.

I like classic, simple looks.  As I head deeper into my 30s, it’s no longer appropriate to be over-the-top (it’s not appropriate to be OTT in one’s 20s or ever, I think).  However, I also don’t want to fade into the background by becoming becoming too “normcore.”  Thus, these pieces are perfect for someone who is looking for the same thing.  Many of the looks are also versatile that it works for the office, the weekend, a night out or even a casual/destination wedding.  In addition, the variety of colours makes the collection a bit on the “seasonless” side.  With the right sweater and footwear, some of the pieces could transition well into Fall 2015.

Cut-wise, I did not see many pieces that fall into what I consider “height inappropriate.”  In other words, most seem to be workable for those of us who are smaller in stature.  This is a good thing as many designers don’t seem to understand this!
