Wow, all I can say is WOW. Marc Jacobs’ Fall/Winter collection was definitely a production. With steps leading down to a raised, curved runway (set design by Rachel Feinstein), that some might say was inspired by Dr. Seuss, the presentation was definitely all out big, including the clothes themselves. Most interestingly was the music. For those of us who watched it via live stream, different versions of “Who Will Buy?” from the musical Oliver were heard.

The colour palette was grey and black dominant, but there were also spots of red, cranberry as well as purples and more subtle pewters. The collection itself consisted of large, furry hats (that looked a bit like a cross between Strawberry Shortcake bonnets and Cat in the Hat hats) that cover the models’ eyes (including some who were wearing sunglasses) and big, bulky dresses and coats that looked very overwhelming (especially on petites) and a bit unwearable (regardless of height). Most pieces were paired with heeled booties, with many of the shorter skirts and dresses with leggings as well. The patterns included floral designs and paisleys with lots of fringe. Wraps pinned together with kilt pins were seen in more than one look (that again, looked bulky). However, if you imagine them being paired with other, smaller pieces, the fullness of the styles can be overlooked. Besides, the Marc Jacobs line is supposed to be more artistic, while his Marc by Marc Jacobs line more every day.
