With Marilyn Manson’s “Beautiful People” blasting, Marc Jacobs‘ fall/winter line strutted down a U-shaped runway with pillars running down the middle. Filled with sleek pencil skirts and dresses as well as military-inspired jackets, the collection also consisted of interesting looking polkadot pill box hats which sort of distracted the collection a little.
Much of the collection was dark, with deep greens, coppers and blacks. The trend of lower hem lines continues with Marc Jacobs, though many of the skirts are not as long as other collections. The just-below-the-knee look is much better than mid-calf, which does not look that great even on tall, slim models. Let’s hope that for more average-heighted women, altering skirts in this collection would not change the shape or look too much. At the same time, the few bulky jackets and tops would definitely not likely make anyone under 5’8″ and below a size 6 look or feel beautiful. In fact, for shorter, smaller women, it might even be a too overwhelming.
There are many likes in this collection, including high neck brown lace dress with the short black ascot/scarf which cries out teatime at the Plaza as well as the gorgeous translucent sleeves on a Peter Pan collared dress. As for the dislikes, other than a few shapeless pieces or ones which won’t work on many women, the collection was pretty solid.
