Presented as an installation on Saturday, this debut collection by former J.Crew designer, Marissa Webb, is definitely influenced by her experience with the company.  Artsy, yet preppy (but not really “bohreppy” (Boho Prep)), the spring/summer 2013 looks include brightly coloured pieces, basic blacks and whites (including a white fit and flare dress that could be a great outfit for the next Diner en Blanc or for someone who doesn’t want a traditional wedding gown) as well as both loose flowing and form fitting items.  There was also a mint sequined blazer as well as brightly coloured ankle strapped, peek-a-boo toe pumps.

Some of the pieces were inspired by menswear – at least one look was paired with a tie and blazer (approximately 1:35) and the installation also included colourful, ankle strap, peek-a-boo toe pumps and clutches, also part of this collection.  A favourite is definitely the black crinoline skirt (approximately 0:20 in the video) as well as the blouse seen at around 1:27 (the pattern is also found in a skirt as well as an outfit that is either a romper or separate shorts and top) as well as a below-the knee black and white skirt and blouse.  Of course, the latter piece might not work very well on anyone who is on the shorter side.  While it is about two inches below the knee on the model, it will likely  be mid-calf on someone who is, say, between 5’2″ and 5’5″.  Not exactly a flattering length.

Though with remnants of J.Crew, it was a good first collection.  We will probably continue to see elements of J.Crew for the next couple of seasons, but there will be a point when the differences will be more apparent.  Definitely looking forward to future seasons.
