Marni at H&M: Shopping the Day Before!

I was lucky enough to be chosen to shop the Marni at H&M collection the evening before its launch at one of the Toronto stores.  I was pleasantly surprised when I got a DM notification on Twitter from the wonderful people at H&M Canada.  I was happy as well, since it meant that I wouldn’t have to get up at 6 in the morning to line up for a wristband, something that won’t necessarily guarantee me any of the pieces.  It seemed like there were about 75-100 people were invited shop the collection Wednesday which was in the same area of the store that the general public get to shop at on Thursday.  The store closed early for us though we had to wait in line outside before we were let in (and since it was a private event, we had to be checked off).  Thank goodness the weather was warm.

Just one of my purchases!

This collection, I personally find a bit nicer-looking than Versace back in the fall, has the usual H&M range of sizes – 2-14 – with a selection of dresses, tops, pants and accessories, including shoes.  There are fewer items than past designer collections and some of the pieces didn’t seem to be available at the Bloor Street store where I shopped.  Prices ranged anywhere from under $20 for accessories to close to $200 for a leather jacket.   Compared with some other designer collaborations, the prices were slightly more affordable.  One thing I have to note is that the sizes were a little bit bigger than what’s typically found at H&M – the collection is meant to fit more loosely.

Though I was among the group of people allowed to shop the day before, the same rules applied.  We were only allowed two sizes per piece and two accessories, making the decision a bit difficult for someone who wants everything (ok, I can’t have everything without breaking the bank).  It did get a little bit crazy when we were all let in, as unlike the regular sale, they didn’t limit the number of people allowed into the shopping area. At the end, I purchased a top, a cardigan, a dress and a scarf.   Thanks so much, H&M Canada for this opportunity!  Outfit pictures coming this weekend!
