Product Review: Limited-Edition Mary Kay® Be Radiant Baked Powder

Marketed as being inspired by “big-city sophistication”, the Limited Edition Mary Kay® Metro Chic Collection consists of 5 products in a limited number of shades.

I was very drawn to the fantastic packaging of a product.  The baked powder comes in a mirrored case that screws closed and is made up of three different shades: a light kind of champagne colour, a muted purple and a light bronzy brown.

From the Mary Kay website:

Limited-Edition* Mary Kay® Be Radiant Baked Powder Delivers a velvety soft, matte finish with a slight shimmer. Creamy, soft texture.

While the website doesn’t explain what this product is used for or how to use it, there is a video provided on how to use this product as well as the other products in the Metro Chic collection.  The swatches of the colours show a slight shimmer in the lightest and bronzy colour while the purple is matte.  Blended all together a nice natural “sun kissed” finish is the result.

I actually used this product in two ways: on the cheeks and on the eyes.

Cheeks:  It can be used as a contour or blush depending on where the colour is placed on the cheek.  The wash of colour is natural and not too shimmery.  The lightest colour could also be added to the tops of the cheek bones as a highlight and for special occasions to the collar bone to highlight the décolleté.

Eyes:  It can also be used as three different eye shadows.  (Note: I personally always start my eye makeup with an eye primer.  Since I have oily lids it’s a necessary step for me to ensure that shadows remain crease free on me.)  I used the lightest colour all over the lid with emphasis on the brow bone and in the inner corners of the eyes.  The purple colour I used at the outer ¾ of the eyelid and into the crease.  The bronze colour I used in the crease and at lash line also adding a touch to my lower lashes.  I finished the look with black liner and mascara.

The shade I tested was “Dusk” while “Dawn” is the other colour in this collection.

Overall I was impressed with the quality of the packaging and the product itself.  I like that it can serve double duty as cheek and eye colour which makes it ideal for travelling.  When used on the eyes I found the intensity of the colour was easily buildable and the colours are neutral enough to take you easily from day to night.

Retailing for $18 USD. I would give this product a 4.5/5.  Great packaging, dual purpose application, easy to use, great for travel.
