Maison Matthew Gallagher: Channelling the Riviera

Judging from the sophisticated, elegant looks, it’s hard to believe that Matthew Gallagher is still in his 20s.  His sophomore season at World MasterCard Fashion Week, once again, this collection is not for the 20-something party girl.  Inspired by the Italian Riviera, there was also a hint of Grace Kelly (Grace Kelly was hinted last season as well, with the Hitchcock-inspired collection) and Monaco (to be fair, French-speaking Monaco was historically part of the Italian Riviera) with models in very elegant, soft make-up and hair tied back in a bun.

Presented in the much more appropriate runway room and with a colour palette filled with whites, pinks and some pale blues, the spring/summer collection had a bit of a younger vibe than the last collection – last season was very much old Hollywood red carpet.  The Spring/Summer 2014 season, on the other hand is more casual and include cropped tops, shorter dresses and skirts as well as his more “signature” so to speak longer, more evening-ready pieces.  Many of the pieces are very wearable on different body types, not just tall, slim models (as I’ve said before, this is something that many designers seem to forget) and ready not just for summer weddings that you might attend, but any dressier occasion. There are also pieces that can be mixed and matched with what you already own and worn to the office.  I definitely have many favourites.  Actually, nix that.  I want almost everything!
