I recently received a pair of MEGUMI-O “Asian Fit” sunglasses as a gift from designer Megumi Hosogai. The glasses, with its huge, rock star style shape, were inspired by those sported by the late First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis and made to fit those who have trouble with “standard” glasses due to the frames touching their faces (less angular) or slipping. This is common amongst many people of East Asian descent. The frames, while large, actually make those with larger faces (again, common for those with East Asian heritage) look smaller. However, if you have a smaller face like me, be warned that it might make you look like an Olsen or Lady Gaga, circa 2008!

Megumi has had a lot of success in terms of media for these glasses and many celebrities (Asian and non-Asian) have been seen sporting them including Nancy J. Lee and Christina Milian. Most recently, a MEGUMI-O tote bag was part of the swag at a HollyRod Foundation (Holly Robinson-Pete’s organization) charity event.

The glasses are polarized UV 400 and are available online for $250 plus shipping (international shipping is $50). Currently, there is only one colour available – black – but other shades will be coming soon. And along with other shades, perhaps a pair that is for smaller faces?
