Mad Men may be ending in 2015, but it hasn’t stopped Michael Kors from taking us back in time. And we aren’t going to 1969, either. Instead, we are being taken back to the earliest seasons, to when Don and Betty were still together, when people were dressed up by our standards – even when they meant to be casual – with longer, A-line skirts and dresses as well as more relaxed capris. I could definitely see these types of looks at a dinner over at the country or yacht club, then or now.
The colour palate strayed on the neutrals – not something that is all that “off” for the designer – with blues, whites, tans as well as pops of yellow, magentas and violet. The gorgeous floral designs – daffodils, wisteria and geraniums – as well as the eye-popping fabrics (I love the gauzy overlay on one of the full skirts) would not look out of place at a country club luncheon, nor would the striped tops and capris be off dress code at post sailing race barbecue, then or now.
As for whether I have a favourite? Definitely the navy blue floral dress with golden yellow flowers (you will catch a good glimpse of it at 0:31 in the video above). The dress itself will probably need massive alterations on someone of my size, however. Any dislikes? Not a fan of the Peter Pan collar and am a bit neutral with the gingham.
