The first day of World MasterCard Fashion Week included designers such as Matthew Gallagher and Sid Neigum. However, I would have to say that the most interesting collection came from Mikhael Kale. For Spring/Summer 2016, his pieces had, as a press release put it, “a delicate, yet highly ornate” look with an “elegant seasonal transition from winter to summer.” The pieces were detailed and embellished with mostly light, spring-like colours. They would definitely be stand-out looks at any event, especially if you’re interested in “wearable art” styles.
Three looks from the collection. Note the length of the dresses – very short on models, meaning a short, yet modest length on shorter and average heighted women.
“Wearable art” is often very overwhelming on certain figures – especially those of us who are short. However, this collection is very delicate, thus petite women would not “disappear” in the pieces. In addition, some of the dresses are almost tunic-length on models and would look much more modest on petite (and even average-heighted) women. It would have been nice to show the piece on someone who was around 5’5″ or 5’6″ rather than near 6′ for a more “realistic” length.
