Milly: Cropped Pants, A-Line Skirts and a Sea of Black

I like writing about “wearable” designers – Nanette Lepore, Tory Burch and the likes.  The clothes are reachable for many, in terms of price, and usually, the looks are at least somewhat workable on various body types.  Milly by Michelle Smith (aka “Milly”)is no different.  While some of the looks are a little more on the interesting side – the furry pieces, for example, were styled in such a way that the models looked like walking bushes – I would say that the vast majority of Milly’s Fall/Winter 2014 looks are pieces that I might consider for my wardrobe next year.  The pants, for example, all appear to be ankle length on the models, which means that it is good news for those of us who are on the shorter side!

However, it isn’t to say that there weren’t any pieces that I did not like (aside from the furry vests and coats).  The vast majority of the collection was black!  Yes, I realize that it’s for the colder months, but it would have been nice to see some pops of colour!  I thought we were onto something when the show opened with a pair of camel pants.  I did like the collection of skirts, which were filled A-lines and grown-up looking pleats (i.e. not schoolgirl) as well as some of the lace pieces.

The collection as a whole had pieces that were size-friendly, which is a welcome change from many of the shows I’ve been seeing online.  It’s always good to see that designers take different body types into consideration, even if the models are all tall and extremely thin.
