Montagne Jeunesse, a vegetarian-friendly skincare line from the UK launched its latest line of products, one-use clay (and one mud) masks, at The Vault at One King West on May 8. Beauty-related media and make-up artists attended this cocktails meet and mingle, a look at products that the company’s existing products, which were in a separate area at the venue, followed by a presentation on the new products by a representative from the UK. The new masks are: Glacial Clay Spa, Red Earth Clay Spa and Dead Sea Mud Spa.
There are three products in the new collection. Unlike other clay masks in the market, these products are single-use, clay (or mud)-infused fabric product. There’s little mess, since all one has to do is to place the fabric on the face, wait 10-15 minutes and then take it off. There is a little bit of residue left, of course, but there’s no need to do much washing – just a splash of water or two would take everything off. There’s also no dried up, stiff feeling that one often gets from clay-based products that come in a tube or jar before the mask comes off. As for effectiveness, I definitely felt that my skin was better after trying the Glacial Clay Spa mask. I have yet to try the other two products, so I cannot comment on those. These products are available at stores such as IDA, Wal-Mart and London Drugs for $2.49.
The event was well-run, despite cell phone reception being non-existent and wi-fi a bit on the spotty side (hash tags were posted, but attendees had trouble tweeting the event). And like most launch and preview events, there were delicious hors d’oeuvres, including a table consisting of spreads, pita wedges and chips and a “signature” fruity drink with sparkling wine.
