Moose&Beaver Makes its Debut

Leah Antoinette’s clothing line, Moose&Beaver held its first full fashion show at the Burroughes Building earlier this week.  The brand’s philosophy of clothing that “loves you back” was definitely seen in the Fall/Winter 2013 collection.  Targeting young women in their 20s and early 30s, the pieces are made with materials such as merino, distressed leather and vintage fur, in neutral hues of dark brown and cream, with bits of colour throughout.  The looks are casual for the most part, though some can be dressed up for a work environment that is not too formal.  The winter shorts trend continues in this collection as do skinny pants with long tops.  A definite favourite is a fur hoodie wrap/lion’s mane worn with a plain white t-shirt and skinny pants.

What’s good about this collection is that one doesn’t have to have a particular shape to wear it – there is definitely something for everyone.  All too often, designers only create art which works well only on long, lean bodies (think about it: this would exclude many Hollywood and music types, too).  While there are good points about the line, the focus on dark browns, neutrals and blue, while allowing us to focus on the designs, was still a little bit plain – it would have been nice to see a something other than cobalt!  At least it wasn’t all black and white.

The price point for Moose&Beaver ranges between $250 and $1,000 Canadian.
