More Change in Yorkville, Part One Million – UPDATE: Kate Spade is Coming!

The constantly evolving Yorkville area of Toronto is making changes once again.  Since our piece last month, not only has hoarding gone up for the new Tiffany & Co. store (moving next to Louis Vuitton later this year), but it’s been confirmed that Stuart Weitzman will be moving into the Ports 1961 store, which has just closed.  Other than a boutique within a department store in Montreal, Ports has also shuttered its Vancouver store.  Another closure, which came to us as a surprise, is French Connection.  Who knows what brand will move in there?  Perhaps Ann Taylor?  Or maybe neighbouring H&M will expand?  Who knows?  Also, James Perse quietly opened on Hazelton Avenue around the end of 2012.

As for other stores, the renovations at the Gap flagship over at 60 Bloor Street West is wrapping up and the store, which was closed for a week, will open on the 30th and the current Gap Kids store will close (there have been rumours that the space has already been leased, though no announcement has been made) and no official work has been done to the old Louis Vuitton spot (D&G is apparently taking over the store) or Moon/Escada. Other spots have also been leased.  Last month, DelectablyChic! reported that work is being done at the old Betsey Johnson store, as well as the spot directly below it.  Since then, it looks like very minimal work has been done and the new tenant has yet to be announced.  Other leased locations include the old Hugo Boss store on Old York Lane, near Augustina as well as the space formerly occupied by the George Brown cosmetology school.  The old MAC spot remains the same.  Since it’s been empty for more than two years, I’m beginning to think it’s cursed!

UPDATE: Retail Insider is reporting that the Toronto will be getting a Kate Spade flagship in Yorkville!
