Cool, Vibrant Wintery Whites and Teals at Nanette Lepore

Winter whites opened Nanette Lepore‘s Fall/Winter collection with brilliant shine, giving off a cool, yet confortable feel.  With soft, flowing fabrics, there was a feeling of a beautiful winter wonderland which was emphasized even on the models’ legs with white tights.   Later pieces included some greys, blacks as well as teals towards the end of the show.  What’s very unusual about this collection is that while most designers focus on warm, fall colours, Nanette Lepore, with the exception of a few yellow gold pieces, was more about the cool winter breeze with hints of spring, seen in the foral dresses.  This, however, is where the originality ends.

Style-wise, the collection itself did not have many surprised as it was not too different from past seasons, with many looks that were part of Nanette’s signature looks.  She seems to also be sticking with the trends.  In addition to flowing, draping fabrics and longer hemlines, cropped pants as well as translucent sleeves were also seen.  One difference, however, was that Nanette swayed away from black sleeves seen in many other collections at New York Fashion Week, and went with teals, which looks gorgeous paired with black as well as creams.

In terms of favourites, the teal blouse with the translucent chiffon sleeves is definitely on the list.  Another like is a kimono-inspired wrap top/dress, though it looked a little too short to be paired with tights, especially for a taller woman.  The cold weather-appropriate tweeds, many of which were also in teal, however, looked a little heavy for some bodies.  There was also a little too much cream/white for a fall/winter collection.
