TFI’s New Labels Fashion Show Crowns ASHTIANI

Toronto’s Golnaz Ashianti’s ASTIANI is the winner of this year’s  Toronto Fashion Incubator‘s (TFI) New Labels show which occured at the Design Exchange on April 14.  Presenting along with the other two finalists Caitlin Power (we wrote about her when we were Prospere Magazine) and Nikki Withersohn’s NARCES.  The event was judged by the likes of fashion designer David Dixon, Flare Magazine‘s Editor-in-Chief, Lisa Tant as well as Toronto Star fashion reporter, Derick Chetty.  Golnaz wins $10,000, the chance to design for Sears as well as an editorial in Flare.

One can really see the talent that young Canadian designers have to offer at the event.  Each designer showed a small collection of 12 looks, all which were unique in their own ways.  Caitlin Power’s collection, which included skirts, pants, jackets and dresses made with many different materials, was very heavy on the blacks and olives.  Winner Golnaz Ashtiani was more into the camels, tans and creams and NARCES, evening looks, including a short, very sparkly old piece reminicent of the 1980s.

Prior to the show, guests were treated to a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres by Eatertainment.  The delicious appetizers included a curry crab pastry,  Attendees ranged from media to designers, buyers as well as those who were not in the fashion industry at all.
