Nicholas K: All About the Flow!

Though the unofficial start of fall has just begun (and not even started calendar-wise), the thought of spring and summer has already gone through the minds of the fashion world.  The opening show of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York was Nicholas K Studio. For Spring/Summer 2012, the women’s (and men’s) collection is full of flowing fabrics in whites, golds as well as continuing the deep green and purple trends from fall.  Blues were also seen in the show.  Fabrics are very flowy and the collection definitely had a bohemian vibe (especially the headdresses), mixed with a bit of seaside resort.

The blue dress in the finale (below) is my absolute favourite.  Another like was a purple dress with the black and white ruffles at the bottom of the skirt – the piece probably won’t work very well on someone my size, but it’s nonetheless pretty.  As for what I didn’t like – not that big a fan of the whites – it was a little bit on the plain side.  Also, while I like many of the pieces on the models, most just won’t work well – no matter how it’s styled – on the vast majority of people.

Other than the clothes, the other thing that caught my attention was the footwear.  All of the female models wore high heeled, platform open toe boots!  While I’m not too sure about wearing boots in the warmer months (won’t your feet get sweaty?), I thought it was a very unique look.
