Nordstrom’s Canadian Arrival is in 2014…

…but will land in Calgary first.  The first Toronto store, at least according to Thursday’s announcement, won’t open until 2016.  The Toronto location will open at Sherway Gardens.  I’m a little disappointed to hear that the wait is going to be this long.  I was hoping that all of the stores would open by late 2014.  However, I’m also hearing that unlike Calgary, Vancouver and Ottawa, the Toronto store is going to be new, rather than replacing a current Sears location.  The rumour is that they’re going to be tearing down the current SportingLife store and building there.

A Nordstrom store in New Jersey

Regardless, as I noted in an earlier post about Nordstrom’s arrival, I’m hoping that there’ll be a wide range of sizing, whether it be smaller-sized shoes or petite ranges in clothing.  And if it replaces the Sears store at the Eaton Centre, perhaps more people will actually shop.  The Sears store there really is more of a place one walks through to get from the subway or H&M to the main part of the mall.  However, I somehow doubt that they’d open there any earlier, if at all.

What are your thoughts on this?  Are you disappointed that Toronto will have to wait four years?  Oh well, I guess a trip out of town might be in the works, if not just to shop.  Alberta only has the 8% sales federal tax, right?  Meanwhile, if we want our Nordies fix without having to go to the US, there’s always online shopping.
