Now that New York Fashion Week is over, we take a look at the our likes and our dislikes the shows:
These Badgley Mischka looks were among our favourites
Some of our favourite things include:
- Translucent, chiffon sleeves
- 1970s-inspired artsy looks
- Wider-legged pants (we are sooooo over skinny pants – we do worry, however, that shorter women may have issues with them, not because they look bad, but because they’re going to be hard to alter)
- The sophisticated looks of several designers such as Carolina Herrera, Luca Luca and Badgley Mischka
- Anna Sui’s Woodstock Chic looks (and the cat hats)
- Betsey Johnson’s use of her staff as models (yay to all body types)
- Nanette Lepore and Son Jung Wan’s use of winter cool rather than warm, fall tones
- Live streaming! Makes our jobs much easier. And much thanks to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week’s YouTube channel for uploading highlights of many of the shows.
What we didn’t like too much:
- Calf-length skirts (not a good look on women below 5’8″)
- Cropped fur coats that make people look bulky
- BCBGMax Azria’s runway show: Drop waists and tea-length dresses are not a good thing and very UN-BCBG
- On a related note, Herve Leger wasn’t great either. Dresses were too tight and the models’ tummies really showed.
- Monique Lhuillier’s “Elmo” Dress (a disappointment, considering the rest of her collection was stunning)
We are definitely looking forward to the next New York Fashion Week, which will be in September. Meanwhile, we are prepping to cover Toronto’s shows next month.
