A few days ago, IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers) published a post on the iPhone versus the latest HTC DROID, an Android-operated device.  I was a little bit astounded at the fact that I was the only one who mentioned that comparing the two is apples to oranges (no pun intended) rather than apples to apples, considering that the only iOS device on LTE is the newest iPad.  In other words, it isn’t fair that these two devices are being compared, considering that they are not even running on the same network.  In addition, the DROID is only available through Verizon (the equivalent abroad, I believe, is the HTC Hero as Lucas Films only licensed the DROID name to Verizon to my undestanding) while iOS devices are not.  Also, as of this morning, there were no replies to my note.

Even though we are not tech bloggers, it’s important for us to better understand the devices that we use.  We should know, for example, that HSPA+ (iPhone 4S’s network) and LTE aren’t the same kind of 4G.  In fact, Rogers in Canada, for a while, refused to call HSPA+ “4G” – it was only because people were getting confused that they changed.

Honestly, if IFB wanted to compare phones, they should have compared the HTC DROID with Samsung’s newest device, the Galaxy SIII.  Here, not only do they have the same operating systems, but are on the same network speed.  If one wants to compare iOS with Android, then please wait until the new iPhone launches later this year or compare it with an older device.  As they say on Twitter, #justsayin.
