The shorter Spring edition started yesterday and runs until Sunday. As media, we were invited to a delicious breakfast featuring items by chef Toben Kochman (Toben Food by Design). Breakfast goodies included mini blueberry pancakes, muesli and yogurt as well as a delicious mini smoothie made with various fruits and kale.
As for the show itself, many familiar faces, including DaLish Cosmetics, Froosh and the delicious Quebec-based spreads and salad dressings line, Les Caprices d’Angeline are back as are many first timers. This season features a section dedicated to those who sell on Etsy as well as those who are making their debut at the One of a Kind Show. Of course, all the familiar sections for food, home, accessories and fashion are also there. Highlighted vendors include:
The cover of these cards may be delightfully cute with the adorable animals, but inside is a different story. Let’s just say you have to have a crude sense of humour in a Seth MacFarlane sort of way to fully enjoy them. In addition to cards, Hug and Kiss Designs also sells buttons, calendars, magnets and prints.
Remember the Mr. Men and “Little Miss” books? These dolls, books and other accessories are similar, playing on people’s “imperfections” such as size, habits and even interests and philosophies. Dolls include Petite Pauline (which I own – she’s lavender, one of my favourite colours. Patty has a male counterpart, Small Saul), Farty Marty (female counterpart is Windy Cindy) and three different versions of Curly Connie (different hair colours). Other body “imperfections” including bigger behinds and being “broad” are also in the line-up.
These cute little critters are made with vintage, upcycled materials, including wools, silks and cottons and are easy to care for – they’re machine washable! Some of the pieces are creative and children can decide what kind of “critter” they are, while others include elephants, bears and rhinos.
Hawberry Farms of Manitoulin Island:
They are actually new to the show and feature delicious dips and spreads, including hard-to-find flavours (such as pistachio butter). They also have a lot of samples. If you go, definitely try the apple pie jam and Canadian maple and poppyseed butter. Your taste buds will thank you.
Nature-based art (paintings and sculptures), including ones with “hidden” images of wildlife.
