Operanation Celebrates Art, Music and Style

Operanation 8, held at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, home of the Canadian Opera Company, on October 21.  This year’s event was called “A Muse Ball” and celebrated not only music, art and style as well and featured installments and four looks from four Canadian designers, including Arthur Mendoca and Joeffer Caoc, both who showed at LG Fashion Week just days before.  However, the highlight of the evening was, of course, the performance by singer-songwriter, Rufus Wainwright.  Attendees were gathered not only in front of the stage, but huddled by the balconies of the two upper floors to hear him sing.

It was interesting to see what guests wore.  Unlike last year, which was held two days before Halloween, costumes were not seen.  Instead, most of the guests were wearing cocktail attire, though there were a few women wearing long, evening gowns.  Perhaps there would have been more creative outfits had Operanation been held a week later.  Maybe we could have seen people dressed up as goddesses, movie stars, musicians or more.

Operanation is NOT Operanation without the delicious appetizers and food stations, always featured in the three floors the event utilizes.  Favourites this year included the scotch tasting bar as well one for chocolate and cheese. There was also an espresso station and one for popcorn featuring three different flavours.  Down on the main level, short ribs over sweet potato mash (with crispy onion and beet horseradish toppings) and tandoori shrimp were served.  Another fun booth was one from Hello! Magazine, where guests were able to get their own mock covers done.

The event was, once again a lot of fun, especially after a crazy week at LG Fashion Week (made sense include designers!).  Can’t wait for Operanation 9 in 2012!
