The Flare and Flavour of Ottawa Part II: The Eats & Some Drinks

In the last piece we covered a few of Ottawa’s great shopping spots to check out when in town. We looked at the high end, the vintage and the up and coming. Now it’s time for the food, Ottawa has a little a bit of anything and everything so immediately you know there are options. After building up that appetite from all the shopping there are some great locations to help satisfy that growl in your stomach.
(Most of the options below are great for lunching during the day or dining at night but check hours of service when in town.)

The Rideau Canal at night

Planet Coffee:

For a lovely break with a small snack accompanied by a coffee or delicious hot chocolate make the turn into Planet Coffee. The portions for beverages and snacks are generous, the staff is open and friendly and the option to sit inside or sit outside in a more courtyard setting that is located in between shops to browse in. (The English Breakfast Tea is delicious!)
24 York Street – Ottawa

Blue Cactus:

The Blue Cactus is located centrally in the Byward Market. It’s cozy but riche atmosphere gives off a great vibe that allows for a relaxed setting with friends. With a wide range of entrees, appetizers and drinks, this is a great place for a group of people who all have some what different tastes in eating. (The mouth watering Cactus burger is a must try for the burger lover!)
2 Byward Market Square – Ottawa

Social Restaurant:

Social Restaurant is a great place to stop for a drink or snack mid-shopping or for that full meal. The restaurant appeals to somebody looking for a more riche and relaxed atmosphere. Social is located on fabulous Sussex drive so you’ll already be close to some great shops (such as Justine and Justinas that we mentioned in part one that is literally doors down!)
537 Sussex Drive – Ottawa

Connors Gaelic Pub:

Situated on Bank, this pub style location is the perfect place for a pint and a filling meal. The authentic atmosphere and low-key appeal are exactly what somebody looking for the pub environment are looking for. (Try their chicken wraps, simple but so delicious)
313 Bank Street – Ottawa

Zaphod Beeblebrox:

This specific night spot has a lot to offer the individual seeking a diverse crowd and excellent mix of music.  At times there are some decent live bands, always some great drinks, good prices and a terrific location to pick as a start or end to a great evening pick this as at least a place to try while in Ottawa.
27 York Street – Ottawa

Well that’s it, actually, not even close, there are plenty more fantastic shopping and dining options in the city to try. These will start you off in the right direction but there really are just too many to mention let alone write about!
