Porchetta’s Yummy Pork Sandwiches

At Porchetta & Co., you only have two choices:  A slow-roast pork sandwich or a slow-roast pork plate (called the Porchetta Sandwich and Porchetta Plate, respectively).  There are, however, many different sauces and accompaniments to choose from.  From cheeses to mushrooms to braised rapini, these can be used as toppings (sauces and toppings range between $0.25 to $0.95) or as sides (ranging from $2.95 to $3.45).  The sandwich is served on one type of bread – sourdough and in addition to the toppings and sides available for said sandwich, tables also have complimentary sauces and mustards (highly recommended is the grain mustard).  Highly recommended is the braised rapini ($0.75 as a topping and $3.45 as a side.  It is amazingly garlicky and delicious) and the truffle sauce.

The restaurant is quite small – only about five or six seats by the window and is obviously predominantly take-out.  The only table faces the sidewalk and is made of reclaimed wood, giving the entire restaurant a bit of an industrial feel – perfect for the neighbourhood it’s in.   Porchetta doesn’t have a delivery service, while I was there, a cab picked up an order that was supposedly going to the financial district, probably a 10 minute drive east.  The restaurant is definitely getting quite the word here in town since it opened about two months ago.  On busier days, the line up starts just as it opens at 11:30 am!

Porchetta and Co. is located on Dundas Street West at Palmerson.  Hours are 11:30 AM to 9 PM Tuesdays to Saturdays and 11 AM to 9 PM on Sundays.  Closed Mondays.
