Come Fly Away with Prada

The show was an hour late (or, in fashion-speak, half an hour), but it was definitely worth it.  Prada‘s Fall/Winter 2011 line’s all about flight.  Ranging from aviator sunglasses to caps and big button coats the collection also had vibes several decades, ranging from mod 1960s to the 1980s.  The “it” item, fur, was also a big part of Prada’s show, as it was at practically every Fall/Winter 2011 show so far.

Colour-wise, there wasn’t much black which is commonly seen in fall/winter shows.  Instead, there were all sorts of shades, from oranges to browns as well as the supposed “it” colour, teal.  Also seen in the collection were chunky heels as well as the petite nightmare, hip belts.  For DelectablyChic! the collection had two eye-catching series of dresses.  First were the the dresses which had patterns on the front and plain in the back and the other were the shiny metallic-toned embelllished dresses.  In either case, the dresses, unlike many other collections were knee length or shorter.  The dresses and skirts had a bit of a mod vibe to them, and suits, in keeping with the flight theme, are a 21st century rendition of 1960s flight attendant uniforms (as well as 1980s “power suits).  Shoes had chunkier heels.

The venue itself, which was set in an atrium, was absolutely gorgeous.  Models had not one, or even two standard runways, but at least three.  Models first walked along a runway on the upper level balcony, before making their way down the stairs to the main runway.  A little bit different from most shows, but the two storey runway really does give off the vibe of flying.
