For anyone with oily skin finding the right combination of products to ensure makeup doesn’t run can be quite the challenge. I recently discovered an eye shadow primer that works well for my oily eye lids. I have tried many primers in the past even using foundation to “prime” my lids for eye makeup but usually by the end of the day (sometimes even in the middle of the day!) the dreaded creased shadow makes its appearance. And with summer and humidity as an added challenge, the right product is definitely required. The one that has worked wonders for me is Too Faced Shadow Insurance.
From the website:
Your full-coverage insurance policy against eye shadow fading, creasing, and melting. Our silicone-based eyeshadow primer transforms any eye shadow into a perfectly blendable, color-drenched, intensified version of itself, then locks it down perfectly until you take it off. Our skin soothing formula evens out the skin tone on your lids and smoothes out lines while it secures a barrier between the oils of your skin and your makeup, so no shadow catastrophes will ever happen again.
Just a tiny bead of this stuff is enough to cover each eyelid. When I’m feeling particularly experimental with my eye makeup I will make sure to add a bit under my eyes as well. Another plus with this primer that I’ve noticed is that it not only makes my eye makeup last longer but it allows the pigment of the colour to be more saturated as well – without changing its colour. I couldn’t really tell this with my “naked” eye but writing about beauty and taking pictures all the time I definitely noticed that my eye make up stood out more in pictures using the primer than it did without. This is definitely an added bonus for someone like me.
I have tried other primers in the past but they have not worked for me – creasing of shadows by mid day and smudges where I hadn’t intended. Too Faced Shadow Insurance is smooth and easy to apply and it never caked – it is definitely one of my staples. Even though this stuff will last me a really long time since such a tiny amount is used, I already bought a back up when I saw it on sale on an online beauty site.
If you’re in the market for an eye shadow primer that will ensure your makeup lasts all day and night be sure to give this one a try!
Available in Canada at Sephora I give it a solid 5/5.
