Rachel Sin Fall/Winter 2012 – Simple Yet Sexy

Opening with Vancouver-born singer, Cory Lee belting away, Rachel Sin presented her Fall/Winter 2012 pieces FAToronto.  The pieces, which made their debut at Ottawa Fashion Week earlier this year, were, according to a press release, inspired by a Pedro Almodovar film starring Penelope Cruz.  The collection consists of textured lace, faux fur and shimmering sequins with a colour palette ranging from camels and nudes to charcoal grey. Peplum, which has ruled the runways for the past few seasons, was seen in the collection as well.

The pieces are simple, yet sexy in their own way – with the kind of subtlety that many designers don’t seem to have anymore.  Keeping with Canadian “fashion tradition,” the pieces are more along the lines of classical and consumer-friendly, but yet, is not boring/carbon copies of other lines.  A little bit more colour would have made it all the more better, but I am happy that the collection did not only consist of black and deep grey.  One look that definitely stood out for me was a pair of black, partially shimmery leggings/peggings (pant leggings) as well as the white and yellow peplum top and skirt – this one really would brighten up a cold, dreary winter.  The collection is definitely something many women would look forward to come fall.
