Red definitely ruled the Golden Globes in 2013. Red-donning celebrities included winners Jennifer Lawrence, who wore Dior and Claire Danes (in Versace) as well as presenter, Jennifer Garner. Others in red included Marion Cotillard and Zooey Deschanel (whose dress is one of our favourites). Co-host Amy Poehler also spent the first part of the show in red. While her dress, like Jennifer Garner’s, was deeper rather than bright, it definitely knocked Tina Fey’s glittery green piece out of water in the opening. While Amy looked very pretty, Tina’s outfit looked like she was auditioning for a 1970s variety show – very different from her L’Wren Scott piece she wore on the red carpet (third picture down). Now that was pretty.

Nicole Kidman in McQueen
Of course, this isn’t to say that black, also seen on many celebs, isn’t too plain. Julianne Moore, who won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Sarah Palin in Game Change, wore a very elegant black Tom Ford with a bit of white detailing and Nicole Kidman was as gorgeous as usual wearing a black and gold studded McQueen.

Jennifer Lopez
Though most were absolutely stunning in their gowns, there were a few who fell in the “miss” category, especially in terms of fit. Rosario Dawson’s gown had a gorgeous light blue shade, but looked at least two sizes too small. The dress Jennifer Lopez wore to present the Best Original Score and Original Song awards was just one hot mess and Lucy Liu’s dress made her look like a vintage lamp. Finally, though not nasty, Lena Dunham’s brownish eggplant Zac Posen needed a bit more styling effort. Lena looked like she was trying something in a fitting room rather than a writer, director and actor attending an awards show.
What were your thoughts of the Golden Globe dresses? What were your favourites? Did you like the dominance of red?
