On Saturday, SAVVY TO, a Toronto-based organization that hosts events for savvy, professional women held a shopping event at new Yorkville boutique, Pomp and Pageantry. The store, owned by Shellie Willms, opened just a few months ago at 112 Scollard Street, features brands such as Ted Baker, Cynthia Vincent as well as MM Couture and Love, Zooey.
The party itself was pretty typical of shopping events in the city, with make-overs, drinks, mingling and of course, discounted shopping (all purchases over $200 received $50 off) and swag. There were also hand massages. While the event was definitely a great deal of fun, it was also extremely crowded, making it a little difficult to mingle. The food (which could have included some cupcakes, perhaps from the neighbouring DLish Cupcakes or the Dessert Lady) was also tucked away in a corner, on shelving behind some seating, but that was probably because of a space issue. However, space is a problem no matter how you look at it if the party happened in the store itself. Even if they limit ticket sales, it’s difficult to know how many people will be in attendance at any given time, so even if they limit the number of people to, say, 20, it could be extremely packed. The only solution is to hold the event at another location, but that defeats the purpose of promoting the store itself. But like I said, this was an amazing event, and gives attendees a great way to discover designers and brands that may be otherwise difficult to find in Toronto.
Pomp and Pageantry’s hours are 10-5 Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 10-7 Thursdays to Saturdays; noon to 5 on Sundays. On Mondays, they are appointment only.
