I’ve meant to post these for a while, but other events, such as Diner en Blanc and New York Fashion Week have taken priority. But now that it’s officially fall, I really should post something on one of my favourite fall/winter staples – the sweater dress. I think I have at least three or four in my closet! I usually pair them with tall boots and tights, especially as the temperature dips, but while the weather is still fairly descent, I might wear them with pumps.
One of my current favourites is a sweater dress (above) I saw at a LOFT fall preview back in August. You might have seen it on Instagram. I finally purchased it a couple of weeks ago and have worn it twice since then, including to a dinner at a newly reopened restaurant. The print is subtle enough that it doesn’t scream “cougar” and is a great piece for work, too. Another piece I like was something I bought last year, a striped dress from Ann Taylor. Again, it is great with boots or pumps (I prefer the tall boots as it keeps my legs warmer in the winter). If you’re looking for a more pronounced look, then definitely wear some chunky jewellery!
Of course, it’s not just about new clothes. There are several pieces in my closet that will be recycled this season, including the three above, which got quite a bit of wear last year. I have to say that the blue Ann Taylor dress (middle) is my favourite – the print gives an illusion of more curves, which is perfect for someone with a straighter figure like me. The purple dress was something I purchased at a Lucian Matis (sorry so wrinkly) sample sale. It’s very straight, so in order to give any figure shape, belting is a must for me.
Are you a fan of sweater dresses? Why or why not? What are your fall/winter staples?
