As you probably have realized, DelectablyChic! is reporting LESS on fashion and food, and MORE on how the founder/webitor-in-chief views and feels about the world. Whether there’ll be further changes is yet to be determined, as it is also possible our site will go on hiatus as a blog (but will continue to be updating via Instagram and other social media – especially surrounding food and #isupportcanadianfashion.</p>

<p>As many of you know, I’ve been feeling out-of-place as a blogger for a while – especially in the lifestyle world. It’s probably age-related. I’m, after all, 37 years old! I have no interest in being super-positive about products (I find that really tacky. And I find it tackier if blog networks REQUIRE posts be positive only if a product is meant to be a REVIEW), for example. Thus, the new look DelectablyChic! is getting will make the site more personal, with all posts written by me, rather than a combination of outside writers and myself. </p>
<p>As you might have seen, there have been many MORE “Webitor’s Thoughts” posts over the past while. This is going to continue. In fact, most posts will fall into this category – I feel that I need space to voice my opinion on life and I might hold views which are different from others. I feel that a more “traditional” look will better serve this kind of perspective. So yes, look for it coming SOON! Maybe even in a week or two. And it’s not like these topics aren’t delectable or chic – I want to focus on my views on feminism, social class and ethnicity/immigration (mostly based on my own experiences ALONG with more style and food/dining-related posts (yes, I want to get back into restaurant reviews and recipes). </p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Today is my birthday. Incidently, it is also <em>DelectablyChic!</em>‘s birthday. Five years ago today, the two year old <em>Prospere Magazine</em> became <em>DelectablyChic!</em>. <p style="text-align: center;"><strong><em>What we looked like one month after launch</em></strong></p>
<p>The site, like me, has changed a bit since its launch. When <em>DelectablyChic!</em> started, I was 31, and a newlywed. I’m now 36 (yes, I know it isn’t lady-like to reveal one’s age, but it’s also 2015. Not being a lady (or gentleman) has different “rules”), five years into my marriage and hoping to start a family through adoption soon (it’s a really long wait). I posted almost every day back then, but now, we’re down to a couple a week. Other things, including my philanthropy research work, are taking priority.</p>
<p>Don’t get me wrong, I still have a passion to cover fashion and food. However, things have changed over the past five years. Fashion, while still fun, seems to be a bit less…mature. Or maybe I’ve gone one direction while fashion has gone another. I like clothing. I like style. But some things are just a bit too crazy for me. And some of the bloggers I see at Fashion Week, previews and other events are just too over the top. I want to be seen as serious. As I’ve said over and over, I don’t think having green hair, big hats and/or trying to look like a Kardashian would allow people to take you seriously.</p>
<p>Where would I like to see <em>DelectablyChic!</em> go? I’d like to try to write more about food (my favourite events are the Gourmet Food and Wine Expo and what USED to be called the Delicious Food Show (now the Toronto Food and Wine Show)). Trying new restaurants, recipes and such. Perhaps even reviewing food brands. I also want to talk a bit more about serious topics. There are elections coming up in Canada and the US is gearing up to be what seems to be a very interesting presidential race (especially on the Republican side. What’s with all the crazies? The two front runners are the weirdest and scariest people they’ve seen in decades). I’m about to start a course in investing, so maybe a return to business pieces, which I wrote when the site was known as Propsere Magazine. It’s going to be a bit of a mish mash, but DelectablyChic! it will remain.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I’ve been blogging under <em>DelectablyChic!</em> for nearly four years and blogging, period for even longer (we were previously known as <em>Prospere Magazine,</em> which made its debut in January 2008. I also ran Shorty Stories, which lasted from 2007 until last year. Prior to that, I had a LiveJournal). Lately, I’ve been thinking about my posting schedule – three days a week, save for “special” events and Chopped Canada recaps (when the show is airing first run). I’ve found that due to this stricter schedule, I sometimes have to put off posts because the “time frame” to publish has expired (e.g. events). Thus, I’ve decided that <em>DelectablyChic!</em> will be publishing post on a less strict schedule – whether it’s news, events or whatnot. This is going to be effective immediately.</p>

<p>The change means that some weeks, you might see five, six or even seven posts, while other weeks, you might only find two. Sometimes, you might see more than one post on any given day. Some posts, especially interviews and articles by other writers, will still be scheduled. Our newsletter will continue to go out on Wednesdays for the time being, though we may move to a social media-only announcements eventually. I know that this isn’t anything new – most sites run this way. However, I feel that not posting about certain topics – unless it’s major news (stores coming to Canada, stores closing or acquisitions) – until it’s a bit too late might make DelectablyChic! look like a “me too” site, even if there’s a different spin. Not the best thing, especially for someone who has been around for a very long time!</p>

Possible answers included the usual fashion, dining and travel…as well as “arts and culture,” which encompasses theatre, classical music, dance and so forth. As many online “style” publications, ones that seem to get the most press (in my world, at least) focuses on personal style (and maybe a bit on food and travel), I’ve always wanted to be a bit different, offering more insight into other topics – especially as I am going further into my 30s. Arts and culture is one of them. So when <a href="http://www.heartifb.com" target="_blank">Independent Fashion Bloggers</a> posted challenge #101, which asks members to<em> <a href="http://heartifb.com/2013/06/22/ifb-project-101-write-about-a-brand-you-want-to-work-with/" target="_blank">write about a brand [one] want[s] to work with</a></em>, I gladly participated (though originally, I was going to write about my desire to collaborate with Stuart Weitzman, my favourite (and small-foot-friendly) shoe line).</p>

As I’d like to see more variety on my site, I’ve decided to include several posts relating to opera once Canadian Opera Company (COC) opens their 2013-2014 season later this year (we already have some coverage on the National Ballet). Posts will not necessarily be reviews – as <em>DelectablyChic!</em> has a style component, I will likely write about costumes. I may write about the sets. Interviews with singers, other musicians, directors and other people involved could also be a possibility. As I was a history major when I was an undergrad, I might write about the historical significance of the plot – and how it relates to modern society (<em>La Bohême</em> is good for that. There’s a reason why Jonathan Larson wrote <em>Rent</em>). Of course, I will have to cover Operanation, the COC’s annual fundraising gala. <em>DelectablyChic!</em> has been covering this event for a while (since 2008, if you include coverage in our predecessor, <em>Prospere Magazine</em>).</p>
<p>So what are my next steps? Definitely contacting the COC to see if arrangements can be made for interviews. As we increase the number of posts relating to opera (and other arts/culture-related organizations), hopefully this would lead to other opportunities, both opera/music-related as well as dance, theatre and of course, fashion and dining (the Canadian Opera Company’s home is on Queen and University – close to the Shangri-La Hotel (home of Momofuku), the TIFF Bell Lightbox (LUMA and O&B Canteen) and of course, “restaurant row” just a few blocks south, in the theatre district.</p>
<p><strong>NOTE: We are still going to post about fashion! This is NOT something that we will cut just because I’m “older.” World MasterCard (Toronto) Fashion Week, the shOws, TFI New Labels, season previews, etc… are on our books as well as other fashion opportunities that may come up (yes, including the possibility of working with Stuart Weitzman).<br />

Well, it isn’t exactly five years as we published under another name – <em>Prospere Magazine</em> – between January 2008 and September 2010. The purpose when we launched was to have an online publication (marketed at that time as a “blogzine”) for smart, sophisticated women – a site that doesn’t only focus on what people are wearing (namely outfit posts) or rely predominantly on sponsored/”fangirl” type of posts, even if those sites seem to get more outside press.</p>

<p>Over the five years, we has gone through many changes. When we first launched, social media was only beginning. We had no Facebook page (though we eventually had a group) or Twitter account (this came a few months later) and updates were more magazine style with a batch of new posts every other week. There was also a slight focus on business. As we grew, we knew that we had to streamline a bit more and make some changes. So, two years later, we dropped the business aspect of the site and made a name change – <em>DelectablyChic! </em>(it’s interesting – some people still get our name wrong. It’s one word with an exclamation), a name that encompasses who we are – food, style and travel with some aspects of fun and culture. And of course, we are very active on social media today, with several tweets going out daily.</p>
<p>Working with PR people, we have covered an immense range of topics including product launches to Fashion Week (mostly Toronto and New York), previews, as well as galas and other events across Toronto. We have also interviewed fashion designers and reviewed restaurants not only in Toronto, but other parts of Canada and the world. This is something that we will definitely be continuing in the future, especially if it is something very unique. And who knows how the Internet will evolve over the next few years?</p>

Closet where I will be posting my style posts starting some time in early August. All posts coming from the site, which will include looks from my closet, wish list items as well as favourite looks from fellow bloggers (hey, I’m looking for submissions!) will feed in to Shorty Stories. This was a mix of a business decision as well as a desire to return to Shorty Stories’ roots as a body image site with posts that are more size issues related.</p>

<p><strong>When were you first interested in fashion?:</strong><br />
<em>I started getting interested in fashion as I entered high school. I used it as a method to self-identify. During my teens I was obsessed with the idea of being the ‘other’. Fashion became a reflection of my state of being, my appearance from hair colour and style as well as my choice in clothing and accessories changed on a daily basis.</em></p>

<p><strong>How did you first get started in fashion?:</strong><br />
<em>As a youth my parents recognized my creative abilities and register me for sewing classes. It was there that I would create my own designs and I would use my high school hallways as my runway. I was often made fun of for my style choices. Which I find interesting, because when I started getting press and exposure for frAsh it was these very individuals that were the first in trying to contact me and associate themselves with me.</em></p>

<p><strong>Who is your client?:</strong><br />
<em></em></p>
<p><em>I envision my client as someone that wants to wear pieces that compliment there outer femininity and inner rock star. I have multiple personalities when I create which is why I love frAsh. Some pieces are simple and delicate while others are massive and aggressive, while others are a combination.</em></p>

<p><strong>What inspires you?:</strong><br />
<em></em></p>
<p><em>I am inspired by what I see and more often than not what I don’t see around me. I found that the accessory industry was lacking in the availability and accessibility of feminine jewellery with a rock edge. Ie: I could only find pearl necklaces or spike necklaces while I wanted one that had both.</em></p>

<p><strong>Are you constantly designing/making pieces or is it more of “when I am inspired”?:</strong></p>
<p><em>I have moved from the constantly designing / making stage to the – I am constantly inspired but not always creating. I am at the point now that I create for collections as oppose to just one of a kind. I find it more challenging but very rewarding at the same time.</em></p>

<p><strong>Biggest lesson you’ve learned since you started?:</strong><br />
<em>Not everyone has your best interest in mind. By far the hardest lesson I had to learn. Everyone wants a piece of the pie but no one wants to work for it.</em></p>

<p><strong>Best piece of advice you can give somebody starting out as a designer?:</strong><br />
<em>Be Patient! I read an article that spoke of some of the big names in the fashion industry, and that on average it takes 25 years to see a profit. This holds true to such names as Yves St. Laurent & Marc Jacob, and hopefully will hold true for me to. (only 15 more years!)</em></p>

<p><strong>How would you like to see frAsh grow/expand?:</strong><br />
<em>Slow and Steady. I have been able to build up a great network that is ever expanding. It is imperative that the business side of the company be able to keep up with the creative aspects and visa versa. It is when they become out of sync that problems arise. As long as frAsh is a brand that has a positive familiarity associated with it then I have done my job well.</em></p>
