The Toronto Fashion Incubator’s Press and Buyers’ Brunch offers designers, whether it be fashion or accessories, the chance to speak directly with the press and buyers and has been held at every Toronto Fashion Week for a number of seasons. While enjoying a delicious brunch, buyers and media have the opportunity to visit a number of booths to not only speak with the people behind the brands, but also physically touch and get an up close look at their lines. Some of our favourites for fall included:
Opelle: The leather bags may look basic, but they are extremely featherweight and most of them can hold quite a bit – for many of us, it’s important that a bag is can hold a larger wallet, a tablet, phone, keys and lipstick plus any other miscellaneous items.
Jameson Kane’s TFI New Labels presentation in 2012
Jameson Kane: Jameson Kane is all about luxury and the (traditional) upper class (think Downton Abbey), as emphasized in the above video, featuring very equestrian/fox hunt like pieces. The Fall 2014 collection (unfortunately, not pictured) full of beautiful wool coats that are extremely warm – something that could last you through the entire Toronto winter season without having to switch to a parka. The cuts are classic and is available in more than just basic black and charcoal.
Slashpile Designs: Got an addiction to caffeine? What about chocolate? Slashpile is the accessories line for you! They have necklaces and cufflinks made to look like molecules of things you love. If you’re more conservative and prefer something that is traditional, they have that as well. On display at the brunch were cruxifixes and Stars of David – great for that First Communion or Bat Mitzvah gift. Most items are under $50.
The camel-coloured skirt and the red skirt are actually two separate pieces!
Dean Renwick: This Saskatchewan-based designer has an interesting collection! One of my favourites, pictured above, is actually separate looks – the plain camel-toned piece and the red skirt. The red skirt, while very unusual, can definitely complement just about any plain-coloured look. Unfortunately, Dean’s pieces are not available online, so one will need to make a trip out to Saskatoon or Regina to get a closer look!
Jon De Porter
Jon De Porter Jewelry: A great line of pieces for those looking for chunky, statement pieces. While many are very overwhelming on smaller frames, there are definitely more delicate pieces available for those who prefer. While the pieces are very statement-like, they’re also classics, like the necklace above (not only great for a bride, but it can also liven up a little black dress, in my opinion).
