US Retailer Advertises Tacky ‘Remembrance Day Sale’ For Canadian Affiliates

This website, like many other websites, rely on ads for income.  This includes affiliate services with major brands.  Earlier today, we received an e-mail from US retailer, Macy’s, advertising a “Remembrance Day Sale.”  As a Canadian, I found that to be extremely tacky, considering that it is a very serious day for us to commemorate war veterans and the war dead. Services are serious and solemn.  There is no mail delivery. Banks are closed.  In some parts of the country, kids get a day off school.  In others, kids can take part in services.  Some schools even do wreath ceremonies.   It is NOT a day to think about shopping.

The offending email…

While I realize that many people shop sales on Memorial Day, but Macy’s has to realize that things in other countries might be a little different.  Whoever handles international web affiliates should have done some research before offering deals like this.
