Versace for H&M: Will You Be Waiting?

The Versace for H&M collaboration hits stores in Canada this weekend (launched today in Europe).   I’m probably going to line up, but I know that it’s going to be a zoo.  In fact, I’m expecting concert tickets style lines by 7 am – one hour before the store even opens. I’ve been to these events before, including last year for Lanvin as well as Comme des Garçons and Stella McCartney.  Every year, it’s utter craziness, and I think it gets worse each time.  And especially after the publicity of Donatella NOT wanting “real women” in the clothes, I’m sure it’ll be quite the scene.  Not only that, many people line up just to buy it for the name.

I have to admit that there are only a few pieces in this collection that I like, unlike last year’s Lanvin collection.  A lot of the pieces in the H&M collection were inspired by the crazy mid-1990s prints that made Versace a household name, looks that are too bright (to put it politely) for my tastes.  Some could be fixed if paired with black or charcoal (just to give the dark, dreary, winter looks a pop of colour), but worn as is, you would probably be stared at and seen as a “fashion victim” by most people.  Still, there are some pieces that I’d like to get my hands on…wish me luck on Saturday!

Will you be waiting in line? Or, if you’re in Europe, did you get anything?
