Wellspring, an organization dedicated to helping families and individuals cope with a cancer diagnosis through support and education held its annual Well Dressed for Spring fashion event at Holt Renfrew Bloor Street on Monday, January 24. The event, which was held in collaboration with Holts and Women in Capital Markets featured models who were all members Toronto’s media, arts, financial and fashion and all have been impacted by cancer. Models included blogger Stephanie Gilman (of Pass Me Another Cupcake), Howard Green (BNN) and Scott Thompson of Kids in the Hall. At the end of the fashion show, a there was a tribute by Elle Canada‘s Noreen Flanagan, to the late Linda Lewis, who was a long time supporter of Wellspring. Linda lost her battle to leukemia last year.
The event was emceed by Amanda Lang, senior correspondent for the CBC News and commentary was by Lisa Tant, the current VP fashion editor at Holts. In addition to the fashion show, there were cocktails and appetizers (the turkey sliders were good, but the arancini could have used a dip) as well as dessert stations from Prairie Girl Bakery, Bite Bar and Jelly Modern Doughnuts. There was also a juice bar, candy bar and coffee. After the show, attendees had the chance to shop, using the $100 gift card that they were given.
In total, approximately 300 people were in attendance and as of yesterday, close to $250,000 had been raised so far in 2014. Wellspring does not receive any government funding and relies 100% on donations from its supporters.
