Here Comes the Cashmere Bride: Highlights from White Cashmere 2015

I’ve been covering the annual White Cashmere in support for breast cancer awareness since 2012 or so.  This year was no exception.  Hosted by Beverly Thomson and held on September 29 at the beautiful, historic Carlu on Yonge and College, the 2015 theme was centred around bridal gowns, with many of the country’s top wedding gown designers (as well as non-wedding designers) putting together the most unique dresses made out of Cashmere bathroom tissue.  This year’s designers included Just Ta Designs, VAWK, Lea-Ann Belter and more.  In addition to wedding dresses, there were also a few pieces of wedding lingerie.

2015, of course, isn’t the first year where wedding gowns were seen on the White Cashmere runway.  It is, however, the first that was exclusively wedding-themed.  Gowns ranged from more “alternative,” short pieces to long, princess gowns.  There were also headpieces and jewellery.  One of my favourite gowns was by Catherine Langlois (first image), that looked very Scarlett O’Hara-inspired when paired with a David Dunkley hat (catch the front of the dress at around 1 minute, 39 seconds on the video below).  Other favourites included Just Ta Design’s shorter dress with a longer train (second image) and Lisa Abi Chedid’s shorter dress (below).  VAWK and Christopher Paunil were among other designers.

The White Cashmere show has been raising awareness for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation since 2004.  As in previous years, the public will be able to view the collection via social media and vote for their favourite pieces.  In addition, Cashmere will donate $1 for each vote (up to $!0,000), to CBCF.
