White is the New Black: The Little White Dress

The unofficial start of summer next weekend marks not only the opening of cottages/summer homes and open toe shoes, but also being “officially” allowed to wear white as someone who isn’t a bride, flower girl or child taking her first communion. Little white dresses seem to be everywhere this season, and are, in a way, “replacing” the little black dress as the go-to piece to accessorize, dress up and dress down.  While you probably don’t want to wear these dresses to a wedding, they can make amazing pieces for garden parties, dinners, brunch or tea.  Just add a few pieces of colour – whether it be accessories, jackets or cardigans to give it some spark.

These long dresses from Banana Republic, when paired with wedges, chunky necklace and wrap or scarf could be a great outfit for a dressy outdoor dinner. Looking for a more casual “second dress” for your wedding?  Either one of these could work AMAZINGLY WELL!  These dresses are both $185.  The second dress is from the Heritage Collection, which is available in select stores.

If you’re looking for something shorter, pair this dress with a cardigan and some nude pumps and you not only have a great dinner look, but one for a more casual workplace as well.  Hitting the clubs later?  Just change your shoes, take the cardigan off and exchange a tote bag for a clutch and you’re set to go.  This dress is $205 at Banana Republic.
