Where have all the make-up cases gone? This was a question I tweeted to my readers a few days ago. Years ago, you could easily find them at any drug store or department store and many brands actually sold them at the cosmetics counter. Not true these days, unless you go online (and the problem with online is that sometimes, the companies don’t put good enough pictures or description, so you don’t know what exactly is INSIDE the case – whether there are compartments/trays or whether it’s just one empty box). There’s a small selection at Sephora, but they’re either very small (clutch size) or big, professional “train cases” that cost $75. There are also old school style vanity cases at luggage shops, but those are big – bigger than some of the smaller train cases at Sephora. Where are the basic cases (not bags) that cost, say, $25? I still have plastic Sassaby and Kaboodle boxes I got way back in 90s when I was in high school, but they’re just too…teenagery for me to use as an adult.
A cosmetics case with compartments and trays – my ideal case would be like this but perhaps smaller
About 10 years ago, I bought a Stila case that had a two level pop-up tray. Not only was it the perfect size for me, but I could put flatter items, such as blush, eyeshadow, brushes and even lip gloss and lipstick on the trays, while bottles and tubes can go into the deeper, main compartment. That box is getting old and probably should be replaced. But with what? There’s nothing out there unless I want to spend a lot of money, whether it be that $75+ professional case or one of those old fashioned ones. And I’ve been searching for a while now. I feel like people just don’t buy them anymore since so many cosmetics counters give them away.
You might ask me why I’m not using a bag. I’m not a big fan of them for travelling. Sure, cases take up more room, but ones with compartments are just more organized. You don’t have to dig to find your lipstick and eyeliner. You just know where it is. And that’s much better than the mesh or vinyl bags you get as a gift with purchase. Anyone have suggestions as to where to get a good case?
