Celebs Celebrate Women in Film at Birks

On Wednesday, September 11, the likes of Wendy Crewson, cast members of Rookie Blue and Paul Haggis honoured several women at Maison Birks at the Manulife Centre in Yorkville.  The event, called Birks Diamond Tribute to the Year’s Women in Film, was a partnership with Telefilm Canada and an “official” TIFF event.    This year’s honourees, which included both directors and performers were Louise Archambault (Gabrielle), Deepa Mehta(Midnight’s Children), Alanis Obomsawin(Hi-Ho Mistahey!), Sarah Polley (Stories We Tell), and Chloé Robichaud (Sarah Prefers to Run); and actresses Évelyne Brochu(Tom at the Farm and TIFF Rising Star),Geneviève Bujold (Still Mine), Sarah Gadon (Enemy), Jessica Paré (Mad Men) and Alison Pill (Goon).

It was interesting to see what celebrities were wearing as ensembles ranged from more “traditional” red carpet formal to business casual or even jeans.  Kristen Hagar came in a black and white striped top and white pencil skirt – a skirt that looked like it was from a store like Banana Republic or Jacob.
