Day Four:
Starting the day off was Matthew Gallagher, who makes his David Pecaut Square debut with a collection that was, like Pink Tartan, inspired by Alfred Hitchcock (see write-up here). This was followed by the avant-garde UNTTLD, whose signature all-black styles once again ruled the runway. Many of the looks translate well in the real world, especially if pops of colour were added as accessories (though I’d stay away from brightly coloured tights unless one is under 25). Also showing on Day Four included outerwear line, Soïa&Kyo as well as the much-loved VAWK (though Sunny Fong’s more “every day” line, VAWKKIN was noticeably missing). The highlight of the evening, however, was The Heart Truth Fashion Show, which was in support and awareness of heart disease in women. The show not only featured celebrities like Erica Ehm, Haley Wickenheisser and Sandra Rinomato, but also heart disease survivors and senior women who epitomize heart health. One of the women who walked the runway was in her 90s!
Day Five:
Ahh…the final day of Fashion Week. As Lucian Matis was showing off-site at One King West (post coming soon), I only attended three shows at David Pecaut Square. And it was mostly fairly dark/black-dominated. First up was Lacerda, presented in the studio space. This collection was designer Vini Lacerda’s debut at World MasterCard Fashion Week, and featured “school girl basics” with a masculine twist. It was also a little bit mid-90s, reminiscent of Clueless or the original 90210 with over sized tops with skinny pants, untucked collared tops and short, pleated skirts and more. The show was partial runway and partial installation, with models first walking towards the photographers and then towards a platform where they stood until the last model came out. The avant-garde Travis Taddeo, menswear line Thomas Bálint and Caitlin Power also presented, in addition to Stephen Caras, whose collection consisted of both evening gowns as well as more “funky” pieces where black, furry embellishments and houndstooth dominated. Wrapping up Fashion Week were the gorgeous evening gowns by Pavoni, who has, as of late, received world-wide attention on the red carpet.
