Fashion Week kicked off with MIZ (see post for more details on this collection), followed by Chloe comme Parris’s collection that was inspired by the 1990s (really, is it retro already?). With an abundance of dark colours and teen angst on the models’ faces, these pieces would not be out of place in the wardrobe department of My So-Called Life.
Toronto favourite, Pink Tartan also presented on the first day, with a collection that was inspired by Hitchcock’s 1950s films. Sporting blonde, Grace Kelly-esque wigs, models walked down wearing Ms. Newport-Mimran’s signature preppy-with-a-twist cuts in colours ranging from basic black to pinks, purples and blues. The wigs were a little odd-looking on some of the models, however, as it didn’t really suit their colouring. Closing the night at David Pecaut Square was menswear line, Bustle, whose funky twist on suits and workwear. The pieces were extremely colourful, and while it is definitely “trendy” to wear pattern on both men and women, some of the pieces were just a little bit over the top.
