Yonge Street Grille: Modern Cuisine with an Old Fashioned Setting

The Yonge Street Grille, located at the Courtyard Marriott on Yonge and College isn’t exactly the most trendy-looking restaurant in the city.  In fact, it’s your typical hotel eatery, slightly overpriced and with dated decor (opposed to retro), a kind of restaurant that would target a slightly older clientele.  However, the same could not be said about the menu, which is more on the modern side.  While yes, you’re definitely going to find old fashioned meat and potatoes, you’re also going to find more creative or “newer” dishes, including pickerel served with blueberries (see below) as well as a slider-like appetizer. The selection isn’t as big as some restaurants, but a more limited menu means easier decisions.  There are separate menus for lunch and for dinner.

Decor-wise, the restaurant does need a little bit of work.  The carpet is a good two decades old (but not in a good, retro 1980s sort of way) and the lighting is sort of half way between too dark and not dark enough -it’s as if they’re trying to be trendy, but just missed the mark. However, if one is willing to overlook the decor and only focus only on the food, then this restaurant is definitely worth a try.  A three course meal with wine will likely run about $45 per person, before taxes and tip.
