Yes, YVES Saint Laurent. Not Saint Laurent, which is how everything else is branded these days. And YSL has two of my new favourite lip colours. Both on the lighter weight side, one is marketed as a balm (the Sheer Candy, in a silver case) while the other, the Rouge VOLUTÉ Shine, is more of a gloss, though still not quite as strong as a more traditional lipstick. There is also a third version, also in a gold case with an SPF of 15 called the Yves Saint Laurent
ROUGE VOLUPTÉ – Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick SPF 15.

YSL is not exactly a brand I typically purchase from when it comes to lipstick – go-tos tend to be Fresh, Bite or Stila. However, I was attracted to their vintage-inspired containers, either in gold or silver with red detailing. It definitely had an old school feel to it. In addition, the fact that the colours are not too over-powering means that those of us who want to wear bolder shades, but are afraid of the too made-up look can experiment a bit more outside of the nudes and pinks without looking fake. I’d say that compared to Fresh Beauty, the balms are a bit heavier, but not necessarily as strong as most of Stila’s Color Balm Lipsticks.

As this is YSL, I was not surprised at the price point of $39 Canadian. Despite the price, I think it’s worth it, more so than the slightly less expensive Marc Jacobs Beauty lipsticks (which are more traditional in terms of the amount of colour – i.e. not worth it in my opinion).
Have you tried these lip colours? Do you prefer bolder lipsticks or glossier/tinted balms?
